Immigration Project Reflection

My experience with my book “Once Upon a Quienceanera” was a very good book because I didn’t know about some things but since I read the book I learned what are in a quienceanera so I can tell people what it’s about. I was very happy with my choice because when Ms. Ganesan told the whole class what their book was I was happy with my choice. Then I had to buy the book and I started to read a little and it was very interesting. Something about my book is that I didn’t know, if that the dad would dance first, or if the girl boyfriend dances first but it was both and it can go either way. So that was shocking when I read that part of the book. My group had liked the book because they were getting deep into the book and so was I so this book was great to read. I think we should change the literature circles back to the papers because other people have problem doing the responses so that’s’ how I feel about that. The blogging was the easiest to me because, all you have to do is read the instructions and post the blog that’s really simple. I didn’t have anything wrong with posting a blog so it was all good. Everyone in my group had the same book but all of us had to paint different painting to represent what we think is important in the book.

The painting I did reflect on the book called “Once Upon a Quienceanera” because I had drawn a picture of a dress and the book is talking about quienceanera and having a good time. I also drew symbols to represent a theme about quienceanera. Then we have to paint the picture we drew to make the art piece more professional. I made a easy connection to the art piece I created because the dress I painted and the symbols go with the book so that is an easy connection made. I felt that I really did like my painting because, I didn’t know I could draw like that or paint to make it look so good. People would come back and look more. Then it came out looking well done so I’m proud of myself for painting this art piece. I don’t’ think my art piece would need to look better because it looks very well done. I learned that quienceanera is different from a “Sweet Sixteen” because quienceanera are longer than a Sweet Sixteen. But I’m glad I painted an art piece reflecting on the book.

My interview that I’ve done went so smoothly because, my participant told me everything I wanted to know in the interview. I thought it would have bothered my participant but she said she doesn’t mind. So I wasn’t worried about that. When I was asking my participant the question for all the interviews I’ve done, she told me more about that one question I told her. It was good to learn more about what I’ve asked her, also she was very into the conversation too. When the participant that I interviewed, she told me everything I wanted to know without, having to read about what happened in China. She just told me everything right off her mind without having to tell her a question. Because she covered everything and I don’t think having to watch a PowerPoint or read a history alive help me for what I’m asking her. Because sometimes the history alive doesn’t give me the details I want to know. I think when I’ve given her the gift I created which is a painting, I think she would be speechless because I spend my class time working on it and I believe she would be happy.

Once Upon a Quinceanera

Qoute pg 240: " Disenfranchised people are going to blow up at quinceaneras. They're going to blow up on the streets, in thier homes."

Significance: This quote is saying, that we need to stop gang violence everywhere. Because if we don't a lot of family members is going to get hurt or killed by the gang violence. So we need to spread to people helping everyone else stoping this gang violence. Because this happens everyday someone gets killed by gang violence.

Personal Connection: I have heard some people get shot, I saw a young man infront of my house get shot because of gang violence. It's not a good thing to see and that family loses someone in thier family. Because that person, maybe doesn't have nothing to do with it, but the person with did and they shot the wrong person. The person who is killing someone doesn't care if they shot the wrong person he just wants to get thier revange on that person. We need to stop this from happening so how.

Quote pg 257: " Orginally, Mariansmo was all about chastitys a sign of the purity of the female and the honor of the family. Our SHERO girls are now talking about charstity in order to protect themseleves, so they don't get pregnant, so they finish highschool and go to college."

Signficance: This quote is saying that young teens girls should finish highschool or college. If they get back on thier foot they should finish school because that is the important thing to do. If they have a child they can share thier experience with them.

Question: Should they young teens girls finish school? Is it important for them in the future?

Once Upon a Quinceanera

Quote #1:
"In the Hispanic community, traditionally it has been the women who hand on the faith. Hispanic women are the evangelizers and teachers of values, yet their leadership has often gone unrecognized. The Quince. Anos blessing publicly acknowledges this historic role.”

Significance: I think this quote is trying to tell us, that Adults women’s are trying to set a role model for young teenagers or young adults. But it isn’t being recognized enough to set a role. The Latino’s, want to tie their culture in with the American style as having a Quinceanera but keep their culture as well.

Personal Connection: I saw in TV shows that when Latino’s, Mexicans and Cuban’s always be having their Quinceanera. But having their style as well and the American style to so they do be tying in the two together. Which is cool to have those two different styles but as one.

Quote #2: “All journey of your life there will be challenges. We’re going to enact that journey by tonight”

Significance: This quote is true, because everyone is going to have challenges in their life’s. But we can’t let that affect us in life, because we have to become that we have to keep doing what we are doing and past that challenge in life.

Once Upon a Quinceanera

Quote: " My truth, okay, but I know what I'm talking about. The richest Cubans put out for their daughters. Quinces are special for us. You see, Cubans fathers are very attached to their daughters. The saddest day for a Cuban father is the day his daughter gets married, You're happy for her, but you're heartbroken to be losing her."

Significance: This quote is talking about the upper-class quince. How the fathers of the daughters give more things then the reglaur Quinceanera. Plus they treat daughters very well but sometimes when the daughters grows up to fast then the fathers starts to miss their daughters so much. Especially when they married that's the toughest to get throw that.

Personal Connection: When I watched t.v. shows just like this it's hard to trying not let them go do their own things. But I wouldn't really know because I haven't left my dad but if I did then I would know how it feels.

Quote: "There's a way in which teen pregnancy is an old issue."

Significance: Being pregnant at 15 years old isn't a big a shock. Because of people being pregnant it's so common no one cares. But being gay is a big in their community because no one talks about it.

Question: What do you think is being pregnant a big deal or being gay a bigger deal?
