Once Upon a Quinceanera

Quote Pg 96: " I tell the kids that manhood and womanhood are gifts to god. Your body biologically matures. But adulthood is our gift back to god. Being responsible, accountable, ethic adults in faith community."

Significance: I believe that this quote is saying, that adulthood is handling the big major things in life. That we should give back to god, and being a teen girl or boy becoming into a adult. Our bodies should mature to being a responsible young adult things in the real world. Showing other people you can do things like a adult if you mature and your body matures aswell.

Personal Connection: People can act mature than other people beut maybe that don't want to show it. But if someone wants to do things like a adult but they act like a kid. They would have to mature from being a kid and act like a young adult to do that certian thing.

Quote Pg 132: " Whether or not they had a party, thousands upon thousands of Latinas have albums full of beatiful memories, thanks to the Munoz dynasty or photographers."

Significance: Alot of teens girls should have pictures of thier quinceanera, so when another teen girl about to have thier quinceanera, so she can know how fun or important it is to have a quinceanera. So when they take differnent pictures that person who had the quinceanera can expire someone who hasn't had one.

Question: Should you expire someone who hasn't had a quinceanera by showing that person pictures about your quinceanera. and tell them how important it is?

Once upon a Quinceanera

Quote Pg. 72: "Boys are born men but girls become women"

Sigificance:
I think this quote is somewhat true. Because not everyone boy becomes into a man and they get into a certian age when they become a man. But girls do become a woman at a certian age but in this book at 15 they turn into a woman. But in the real world not everyone changes at that at 15. Or becomes a man at the same time.

Question: Do you think it's expensive to have a quinceanera?

Quote pg. 93: "This is a wonderful opportunity to invole young people in thier faith community,"

Sigificance"
I like this quote, because it talks about how young people has a great opportunity to have a great education. Also to get into thier culture and with the lord aswell. Being to religious in girls celebration when they become 15. To me that's great to see in young boys and girls being so reglious and learning about thier culture aswell. But sister Angela tells girls, that about her quinceanera how it is expensive and later on the future their daughters moms, still paying the money.

Personal Connection: Julia said that she is writing a book about girls having quinceanera and how it's so difcult. Because you have to look good for your quinceanera but you have to learn it's not only a party but your becoming a woman dealing with the real world. Which is true and Mexicans, Cubans, and Latinos have religious beliefs about thier culture and thier quinceanera's.

Question: Do you think it's a good thing to learn about quinceanera's, and asking differnet people about thier quinceanera's?

Once upon a Quienceanera

Once upon a Quienceanera

Page: 32

Quote: “We can create a support platform for the young lady that she can have to look back upon for the rest of her life. That moment, she knows she is a queen of her life she had on that feeling.”

Significance: I think Isabella is talking about that quince is about becoming into a young lady and as the same being a queen for your quienceanera.

Person Connection: I saw on a t.v show about Latinos, Mexicans having a Quienceanera, but I never knew what it meant until I read this book. How Isabella was talking to Julia what it means and asking all these questions. Until I finally knew what it means but it really means becoming a young lady when you turn sixteen.

Question: Why do you think Julia keeps asking Isabella questions, about her quienceanera and how it turned out?

Haven to Home

This exhibit struck me because it was talking about the Jewish culture how they were living and it was sad to me because I wouldn’t want to go through these Jewish people was going through at this time. This one street which is called “Golden Land” these people had children begging for food to help their family get back on their foot. Everyone knew each other, but they were out in the streets doing things a kid shouldn’t do. When Martin L King came to help out some Jewish families to get them in an area that they can carry them self at was excited to me. Also he did help the African American people as well. Their beliefs were very serious, because that were their culture they had to follow like the Omar Calendar. Were important because they needed to know what happened each day if something was important to them.
The markets they had for food was expensive. The restaurants were very expensive because everyone goes there to eat fresh meat. Only problem is that they couldn’t have diary food on the same plate as the meat. Because I believe to them is bad luck, this one guy had thrown a banquet, in honor for their family. They had invited some friends over, and the people at the restaurant were very selfish about their meat. Just being every rude to the friends they had invited to. Plus if you go to the markets it’s going to cost 18 cents for the meat. Some people couldn’t afford it which was sad because they had to work extra hard to help their family have food for the day.
This on guy had opened up a public service where to have free classes to learn how to speak English. So the children at the classes can learn how to read, write and speak English to other children. This is important, if someone would go to America, to speak English to people there as well.
This man named Benjamin Bugsy Sigel, was one of the gangster in America and a Jewish gangster. He started Las Vegas has his own hotel called the Flamingo in Las Vegas it’s a tall statue and he started a casino in Las Vegas as well.

Children Immigrants

“When I left my country Vietnam I didn’t know that I would probably never came back again. I was just 10 years old. I knew my life would begin from this moment.”
Ngoe Nguyen, Vietnam from between cultures.
My favorite picture is boy on the playground.
What this picture is about, this Asian boy is on a playground and his sitting down. With his hand on his cheek just dreaming. What I think he is doing and thinking about is a dream house with all the things he can have in a house. Livings like an American kid, but he can’t have the things he wishes. This photo struck me the most. Because if you look at this photo, you would feel sad looking at something this Asian boy wishes to have. But he can’t because he isn’t living like he wishes he should be living.

Immigration Reflection

Immigration Reflection
An immigrant is a person who comes from another country and come to the U.S. Because maybe their life style isn’t as good in the U.S. people are. Maybe some immigrants, thinks that if they come in visit the U.S. to have a better life style and be in a good environment so they can have a better future. Do things that other people can.
Our country has to offer everything. That an immigrant wants to have, plus our country has freedom of speech saying whatever they want. Because some countries can’t do anything thing they want to do. I think that’s why immigrants move from their country to the U.S. so they can experience life that they haven’t back in their home. I think that immigration has change because a lot of people who transform to the U.S. gets to learn about our culture and what we study in school. Also people in Mexico, gets to teach Spanish in schools so we can learn their language. Other people from other countries gets to teach people their language, food, culture everything. Then we can learn from their background experience to tell everyone who wants to learn that.
I think that it hasn’t change. Because to me that’s a good thing. To learn about, also in school get to learn that culture and how they been living. This is really cool, because in high school we are going to learn other people’s culture. Also to study their life style and how it affected us.
